A Tribute to Brendan

All cats are special, and Brendan’s particular qualities included a devotion to the pursuits of eating, sleeping, and loving. Widely known as the “Velcro Kitty,” he was rarely far from a human body. He was the official greeter for all guests and Reiki students, and was loved by more people than we realized.

On January 17, 2000, he died at the age of 13 of feline infectious peritonitis. We had the gift of being able to have him euthanized at home, and he purred right up to the moment of his death.

This memorial page is dedicated not only to Brendan, but to all companion animals whose lives have enriched their peoples’ lives and opened their hearts.

It is also dedicated as well to the more than 100 people who wrote about Brendan and shared stories of their own beloved cats who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Request From Rainbow Bridge
by Consta Jenkins

Weep not for me though I am gone
I am at peace, my soul’s at rest
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts,
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.
